Reading Strategies: Word Chunking - UbD

  1. Hey Katherine :)
I love your idea... I think that it is really important to teach students this strategy because like you stated it really can be useful to students outside just the reading classroom....

I did have a question though and that was you stated under knowledge that you wanted students to be aware of other reading strategies... I was just wondering whether or not you wanted this as prior knowledge? If you did it might be a good idea to just do a quick review of some of them simply so that students can recall their previous learning.

I think that you are definitely headed in a great direction with this... So I am excited to see where you take Stage 2 & 3 :)

  2. Katherine,
This is a great reading strategy andone that is really useful for students to have a good grasp on. I think you did a good job of using clear language. Although this may be covered in stages 2&3, will you have any explicit instruction on how students should choose a particular strategy to use or is that something you would prefer them to investigate on their own? I think that similar to Michelle, adding a review on previous strategies would be helpful for students to differentiate between them all. Great Job!

  3. Love your lesson! You did a great job specifically breaking down the skills and knowledge concepts. For your enduring questions do you believe that they are 'big ideas'? Worldly enough to take away and remember forever? Ps...I loved the first question.
